I recently discovered an infestation of carpenter ants in my furnace room. We have not been able to yet locate the nest. Could you please provide me with direction on the least toxic ways of treating this. I have begun with bait. Of course, the local pest control company wanted to start putting dust in the walls which so far I have not permitted them to do. But I would like to learn about the best ways for treating and if you can recommend any pest companies/service in central Pennsylvania ... I live in Mechanicsburg, Pa. which is about 12 miles from Harrisburg the state capital.

I had my house inspected a few days ago and the inspector found evidence of powder post beetles in the beams that support my roof. He recommended contacting a pest control company immediately and said that I would probably have to have the house tented. Is there another way of dealing with this? I guess that is my question. I also have a second question. I appear to also have carpenter ants in my house. I only see them occasionally, usually during the time of year when they have wings (March or so). Are they a threat to the structure of my house?
